Organic Forms

2010 Bronze

This art series is a manifestation of meditation and focus. Focus on form, feel and fertility of creativity. It came about as I was struggling to break a strong spell of artist block. It was drilled into me by a narrow minded teacher that I could not make art without first having an idea, forming a concept and/or a purpose. I then had a teacher with a much more open minded and honest approach to art making. This instructor helped me break my creative block by giving me the ability and freedom to see past specific meaning and truly explore creating. By going with the instinct in my hands as I modeled wax, melted bronze, filed and polished I was meditating on the meaning of making. I worked with how the wax moved between my fingers and used the miscast and flashing as beautiful examples of wabi-sabi. These little abstract sculptures are about breaking through walls and leading me to follow a new path.
